Excursion Ouarzazate - Ait Benhaddou

Ouarzazate Ait Ben Haddou

Trip description

  • Early departure in the morning. We will cross the High Atlas Mountains and reach the Tizi n’Tichka Pass at an altitude of 2,260 meters, the highest road pass in Morocco. It connects Marrakech to the Saharan regions, with Ouarzazate serving as a major gateway to the desert.
  • We will stop to visit the famous fortified village of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This remarkable kasbah has served as the backdrop for numerous international films and productions, including Lawrence of Arabia, Sodom and Gomorrah, The Jewel of the Nile, Jesus of Nazareth, The Mummy, Gladiator, Seven Years in Tibet, Alexander, and Babel.
  • Upon arrival in Ouarzazate, we will visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, built in the 17th century and described by the French historian Henri Terrasse as the jewel of the region.
  • Sheltered by its palm groves, Ouarzazate stands on the edge of a vast rocky landscape shaped by the winds of the Sahara. While temperatures can easily reach 45°C in summer, the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas Mountains can often be seen nearby. The oases and surrounding mountains of Ouarzazate conceal remarkable treasures. Its kasbahs, magnificent architectural landmarks with earthen walls and imposing towers, transport visitors to a world where time seems to stand still.
